It's rare these days to find a nice movie. One that's kind to, and even loves its characters, while remaining true to itself. Too often movies that could be nice are too cloying or too condescending or too damn conventional to truly stir any sort of reaction out of me other than disgust. And if I had merely seen the trailers for Whip It, I would have dismissed it under one of the aforementioned problems I have with nice movies.
